Cycling in Hellysilt, Norway: Waterfalls, Fields, and Villages

I spent a few days in Hellysilt, using it as a base to discover the surrounding areas. My go-to adventure? Cycling. It was a vibe. The weather didn’t try to rain on my parade, the trails were user-friendly (even for my pregnant self), and the nature? Unbelievable. From waterfalls and lush green fields to adorable little villages tucked in like secrets waiting to be shared, riding around Hellysilt on two wheels—or in my case, fabulous rented e-bikes—was everything.

Here’s a breakdown of what makes cycling in Hellysilt a bucket-list must-do.

Cycling in Hellysilt: Safe, Scenic, Stress-Free

First things first—what makes biking in Hellysilt so special? One word: accessibility. These cycling trails aren’t about grueling climbs or life-threatening downhill speeds. No Tour de France energy here. The routes are fairly easy, making them accessible for, well, almost anyone.

Bonus points for the e-bike rentals. Yes, I am team electric. Pedal-assist power? Chef’s kiss. Trust me, when a little incline catches you off guard or when you just want to take it slow and soak in the scenery, e-bikes are like your personal cheering squad saying, “You got this!”

What You’ll See While Cycling Around Hellysilt

Just when you think you’ve seen every Instagram-worthy scene Hellysilt has to offer, BAM—another view hits you.Whether you’re biking along sun-dappled roads or coasting through shaded forest paths, here’s what you can expect to see:

Magnificent Waterfalls

One thing Norway doesn’t play about? Waterfalls. Imagine cycling past roaring cascades that look like something straight out of a fantasy novel. My personal fave was the Hellesyltfossen waterfall—right in the heart of town. It’s impossible to miss and even harder not to stare at for too long… fair warning, it’s a splash zone, so don’t get too close unless you’reokay with nature’s version of a surprise facial.

Endless Fields of Green

Think postcard-worthy fields that go on forever, dotted with wildflowers that look like little bursts of happiness. It’s a level of peaceful that feels illegal. Spring and summer turn these fields into vibrant mosaics of color, making them the perfect backdrop for all those bike selfies.

Charming Villages

The little villages around Hellysilt are pure magic. Picture red and white houses surrounded by green fields…

Views of the Geirangerfjord

Speaking of the Geirangerfjord—this cycling route takes “breathtaking views” and raises them to stop-your-bike-and-stare levels. If you thought the fjord was stunning from a boat, wait until you see it from above on one of these trails.

Why Biking in Hellysilt is for Everyone

When I say everyone, I mean it. I was pregnant when I biked Hellysilt’s trails, and guess what? I had the time of my life. (Thank you, e-bikes!) This makes it a great spot for individuals, couples, families, and even those who haven’t touched a bike since their last spin on a tricycle.

Here’s why Hellysilt works for all cyclists:

  • Beginner-Friendly Trails: Nothing too extreme here. It’s safe for kids, seniors, and, yes, expectant moms like me.
  • Flexibility: Want a casual ride? Easy. Feeling ambitious? Go further out. You can customize your route to match your energy levels.
  • No Pressure: It’s not a race. You can stop and smell the wildflowers (literally) whenever you please.
Tips for the Best Cycling Experience

Before you saddle up, here’s a shortlist of pro tips to make your Hellysilt biking adventure even better:

  1. Rent an E-Bike:

If you’re wondering, “Should I, though?” The answer is yes. Renting an e-bike is a game-changer, especially for those scenic Norwegian inclines.

  1. Plan for Pit Stops:

Keep your camera handy—you’ll want it. Plan pit stops at places like Hellesyltfossen or along the scenic roads overlooking fields and fjords.

  1. Dress for the Weather:

Hellysilt’s weather can be unpredictable, but that’s just part of its charm. Layers are your best friend.

  1. Stay Hydrated:

Pack a water bottle or pick up something from one of the cute cafes along the way.

  1. Respect the Trails:

We love nature, and nature loves us back—so keep it clean, quiet, and as untouched as you found it.

I believe that you can travel the world without quitting your job. I believe that you can experience all the magic, the foodies and the cultures of the world while having a normal life. And, perhaps, two dogs. This is exactly what I’ve been doing for 15 years. This is exactly what my blog is about. Love, Lilia
